— The Logan Family, Owners Since 1991
The day begins slowly, without the rush of a hospital or institution. Breakfast is served leisurely from 8:00 to 9:00 AM in our historic dining room—a tradition dating back to when this building was the Black Hawk Hotel in 1914.
After breakfast, the day flows into a mix of structured activities and personal time. Our activity aides design programs based on resident interests, not just a generic calendar. Whether it’s gardening in our hidden garden, working on a puzzle, listening to live music, or taking a supervised outing into the Fort Atkinson community, there is always something meaningful to do.
Research shows that engagement is crucial for cognitive health, especially for those with memory loss. Therefore, our routines are designed to be predictable yet stimulating. For residents with dementia, this consistency reduces confusion and agitation. They know what comes next, which provides a deep sense of security.
Lunch is served at noon, again featuring home-style meals cooked in-house with locally sourced ingredients. We accommodate specialized diets without sacrificing flavor. Because food is love, and we treat every meal as an event to be enjoyed, not just a task to be completed. Moreover, our care staff eats with residents—turning lunch into a social highlight, not just a nutritional checkpoint.
The afternoon offers a chance to recharge. Some residents take a nap, read a book, or tend to their personal hobbies. Others spend time in our hidden garden, which explodes with color in the spring and summer. It’s a peaceful sanctuary where residents can relax on a swing, share a glass of lemonade with friends, or simply watch the birds.
Pets are also part of our daily fabric. Residents may bring their cats or birds, and visiting dogs from family bring wagging tails and joyful energy. These small moments of connection—stroking a cat, watching a bird fly—are often the highlights of the day. They remind residents that they are still part of a living, breathing world.
Furthermore, our RN nursing services are available throughout the day for any medical needs, from insulin management to catheter care. This ensures that health concerns are handled seamlessly, allowing residents to focus on living rather than worrying. As a result, even complex care becomes invisible—so life feels normal, safe, and dignified.
Our dining room has been serving meals since 1914. Today, we continue that legacy by cooking nearly every meal in-house using fresh, local ingredients, ensuring that every bite tastes like home.Voted “Best Assisted Living Facility” 10x by Daily Union Readers • Locally Owned Since 1991
