to Loving Home

A tradition of excellent care rooted in community.

Since 1991, Black Hawk Senior Residence has provided assisted living in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin with one unwavering goal: to care for every resident for the remainder of their lives. The Logan family transformed the historic Black Hawk Hotel — originally built in 1914 — into a warm, private residence for seniors that Fort Atkinson has voted «Best Assisted Living Facility» 10 times.

Our Story

Assisted living in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin:
how Black Hawk became the community's most trusted home

Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin has always been a community that takes care of its own. Consequently, for over three decades, Black Hawk Senior Residence has been at the heart of that tradition — providing compassionate assisted living in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin to the seniors who built this town.

The story begins in 1914, when the Black Hawk Hotel first opened its doors at One Milwaukee Avenue West — quickly becoming, as a result, a landmark of hospitality, fine dining, and community gathering in downtown Fort Atkinson.

From historic hotel to assisted living community: the Logan family’s vision

Nearly eight decades later, in 1991, Jack and Sharon Logan saw something others didn’t: a chance to transform that legacy of warmth into something even more meaningful. Therefore, they remodeled the historic Black Hawk Hotel into a state-licensed CBRF (Community-Based Residential Facility) — one that would prioritize dignity, privacy, and genuine connection over clinical efficiency.

As a result, under second-generation family ownership today, Black Hawk remains Fort Atkinson’s longest-running assisted living facility in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin — and the community’s most trusted senior home.

1914 BLACK HAWK HOTEL OPENS
Built in 1914, the Black Hawk Hotel at One Milwaukee Avenue West became a Fort Atkinson landmark — known for fine dining and community hospitality since the turn of the century.

1991 A NEW PURPOSE
Jack and Sharon Logan purchase and transform the hotel into Black Hawk Senior Residence — 34 private bedrooms, each with a full private bathroom, purpose-built for dignified senior care.

2006 FIRST "BEST IN AREA" AWARD
Starting in 2006, the Daily Union Reader Poll named Black Hawk the best assisted living facility in the area — the first of what would become 10 consecutive recognitions.

2006 CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HONOR
Jack and Sharon Logan are named Small Business Persons of the Year by the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce — recognized for their impact on the community and care for its seniors.

Our Mission

Our mission: senior care in Fort Atkinson, WI for the remainder of their lives

Our mission is simple: to care for our residents for the remainder of their lives. In fact, every decision we make — from staffing to mealtimes to room design — flows from that single commitment.
To that end, we host hospice and home-health services, allowing residents to stay in their Black Hawk home as long as possible. Furthermore, we drive and accompany residents to local medical appointments to assure that doctors’ orders are accurately conveyed and followed.
As a result, our residents don’t just receive care — they receive continuity, familiarity, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing this is truly their home, for as long as they need it.
